IBM Expands Enterprise Storage Offerings
20 Jul, 2009
IBM announced enhancements to its information infrastructure portfolio of enterprise storage products. The enhancements to the IBM XIV Storage System and the System Storage DS8000 include security, manageability and business continuity, claimed the company. Furthermore, the system will help customers reduce costs and energy consumption, while dealing with the increasing volume of information that needs to be stored, managed and analyzed, IBM added.
IBM announced that the XIV Storage System plans to support asynchronous mirroring later this year. This will enable remote disaster site recovery without a limit on distance, and will help customers protect information from local outages, according to the company.
Additional XIV enhancements will help customers reduce costs by ensuring the efficiency of employees who rely on quick access to information, IBM claimed.
IBM also announced the addition of Thin Provisioning to the IBM System Storage DS8000, which they claimed, supports continuous operations for cross-platform, and mission-critical workloads.
"Businesses today are faced with addressing core information requirements around compliance, availability, retention and security, while maximizing the value in their current storage infrastructure," said Barry Rudolph, VP- System Storage, IBM. "IBM's broad portfolio of storage offerings will help customers unlock the value in their datacenters to address their information infrastructure needs," he added.
