Gateway Communications has signed an agreement with MEASAT Satellite Systems for capacity on the AFRICASAT-1 satellite beginning in October.
Gateway, which was recently acquired by Vodacom Group, will lease multiple C-band transponders on AFRICASAT-1 as it consolidates its market position in the provision of voice, data and Internet access. Gateway Communications has 1,200 corporate customers across 40 countries in Africa.
The company designs and develops services specifically for African businesses, which means customers benefit from applications that are ideally tailored to their needs, said Gateway CEO Peter Gbedemah.
“Our goal is to offer high-quality voice, data and Internet connectivity to all businesses in Africa -- from simple voice and data to the most complex and bandwidth-intensive video, audio and Internet content, e-commerce or enterprise networking,” he added.
MEASAT looks forward to a long and successful cooperation with Gateway Communications in expanding its broadband services, according to Terry Bleakley, vice president of commercial operations at MEASAT.
Operating in inclined orbit, AFRICASAT-1 provides 12 C-band transponders and four Ku-band transponders for telecommunications and broadcasting applications. The satellite is operated from the MEASAT satellite control facility in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
